May 2014 Activity Weekend
Members of West Kent ARS held an activity weekend in Matfield over the 17th/18th of May, which coincided with the 144MHz May Contest.

The VHF station used an IC-746 with 100w to a 9 ele Yagi, which worked MM0GPZ/P as best dx, at a distance of 558km. During the event a total of 73 stations were logged, including another GM plus GW, GD, F, ON and PA.

Along with the VHF contest station, a HF operating station tent was also setup with a 120ft doublet fed by ribbon cable. Members of the club who used this station on the Saturday night worked JA and VK among others on the 17m band.

The club members attending enjoyed the social side of the event along with the ample food and drink, which was planned and overseen by Mark G8PHM and his XYL Gil M6GVZ.

In all this was another fun club weekend that like many field events was troubled by generator failure on the Sunday morning.

Fortunately this setback was overcome to enable the event to be concluded and everyone satisfied with the stations; catering and the excellent weather that all came together to make this a very enjoyable time.

The next field event/contest in the club calendar is the 50MHz Trophy that takes place over the 21/22nd of June. Further details of this event can be found under the 'Club events' tab on this website.
